The Phantom of the Opera

Her voice became his passion. Her love became his obsession. Her refusal became his rage.....

Oh no, another adaptation of a stage play into a film... thats what I

thought. The difference between this and some of the others (i.e.

Chicago) is I love the stage musical of Phantom whilst I hated the stage

version of Chicago so the stakes are much higher.

What should you expect from this film? Well it is based on the stage

version. The soundtrack includes all your favourites (and if you

haven't seen the stage play, you probably know some of the music anyway) and

roughly the same plot:

"The Phantom of the Opera" is a magnificent tale that begins when an

opera ghost terrorizes the cast and crew of the French Opera House while

tutoring a chorus girl. He finally drives the lead soprano crazy and

she and her friend leave. The "girl" is able to sing lead just once but

the soprano doesn't want her show stolen so she comes back. The ghost

demands they keep giving his protege lead roles. Meanwhile, Christine

falls in love with the Vicomte de Chagny, but the Phantom is in love with

Christine. The Phantom is outraged by their love and kidnaps Christine

to be his eternal bride. Will Raoul, the Vicomte, be able to stop this

dastardly plan? Watch and find out....

This is a dark film, this is a big budget film, this is a well done

film. Minnie Driver is ok for someone who didn't know Phantom before she

started work on it and I wasn't holding up much hope for her, but she

does alright.

Don't be expecting Chicago, it's not Chicago (it's much better!). It's The Phantom of the Opera and he is here....
